Find Tulsa County Marriage and Divorce Records

Tulsa County marriage and divorce records run through the Court Clerk's office. A Tulsa County marriage records search starts with the license, which the Court Clerk issues. Divorce records are District Court family files, and the Court Clerk handles certified copies. People come here to apply for a marriage license, to get a copy of a decree, or to look up an old divorce case. Marriage license rules cover age, identity, and a short waiting period for younger applicants. Divorce filings follow Oklahoma family law. The pages here cover where to apply, what it costs, and how to find the records later.

Where to Apply for a Tulsa County Marriage License

The Tulsa County Court Clerk issues marriage licenses. The Marriage License Division is on the second floor of the courthouse at 500 South Denver. A satellite office in Broken Arrow also issues licenses. Both applicants must appear together in person, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on a weekday. The marriage license line is 918-596-5478.

The Court Clerk marriage license page lists the locations, hours, IDs, fees, and waiting-period rules.

Tulsa County marriage records license application page

Review that page before you go, so you bring the right documents the first time. A missing ID or proof of age means a wasted trip, since both applicants must be present together at the counter to apply for the license.

  1. Both applicants go together to the courthouse or the Broken Arrow office.
  2. Bring a government photo ID and proof of age.
  3. Bring extra documents if a name has changed or an applicant is under 18.
  4. Apply between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on a weekday.
  5. Pay the license fee and receive the license.

Marriage License Requirements

The rules turn on age and identity. An applicant 18 or older shows proof of age, such as a state ID, a birth certificate with a photo ID, or a passport. An applicant aged 16 to 18 needs parental consent and a birth certificate, and faces a 72-hour waiting period that a court order can waive. Under 16, a license issues only with a court order. A government photo ID is required to prove identity.

A few rules surprise people. There is no residency requirement, but the marriage must be performed in Oklahoma. There is no blood test. There is no waiting period except for applicants under 18. A person divorced in Oklahoma may not marry anyone other than the previous spouse for six months from the date of the decree. These rules come from the state marriage statutes at 43 O.S. 1 and the sections that follow.

That six-month rule trips up couples who marry soon after a divorce. The clock runs from the decree date, not the date the case was filed. If a recent divorce is in play, bring the certified decree so the office can check the timing. The same care applies to a name change: if your photo ID does not match a prior name, bring the court order or decree that explains it.

Tulsa County Marriage License Fees

The fee depends on premarital counseling. The standard license is $50. With a qualifying premarital counseling certificate, the fee drops to $5. The certificate must show at least four hours of counseling under the state marriage statute. Payment rules differ by office.

ItemFee
Standard marriage license$50.00
License with premarital counseling certificate$5.00
Payment downtownCash or card
Payment at Broken Arrow satelliteCard only

The reduced fee rewards couples who complete counseling before they apply. To claim it, bring the counseling certificate to the office when you apply, since the discount cannot be added later.

What the Marriage License Application Needs

There is no online application; both people apply in person. The office checks identity, age, and any documents tied to a name change or a prior divorce. The list below sets out what to bring.

The Broken Arrow Satellite Office

Not everyone has to drive downtown. The Court Clerk runs a satellite office in Broken Arrow at 123 North Main Street. It can issue and record marriage licenses and provide certified copies of marriage licenses and divorce documents. The satellite phone is 918-596-8991.

One difference matters. The satellite office takes card payment only, while the downtown office takes cash or card. Both offices keep the same weekday application window. For Broken Arrow and east-county residents, the satellite can be the easier stop, and it handles both new licenses and certified copies.

Officiant Registration

Oklahoma simplified officiant rules. The Court Clerk says an officiant no longer has to come to the courthouse to register credentials. When the officiant signs the license, that signature certifies the officiant's authority to perform marriages. No documentation or book-and-page number is required.

This saves a step for many couples. The person performing the ceremony still must be authorized under state law, even though no advance registration is needed. After the ceremony, the signed license is returned to the Court Clerk to complete the record, which is what makes a later certified copy possible.

Marriage License and Divorce Decree Copies

Copies come from the Court Clerk. To get a copy of a marriage license or a decree of dissolution of marriage, visit the Court Clerk's Office between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on a weekday. For marriage license help, call 918-596-5478. For a decree of dissolution copy, call 918-596-5454.

A certified copy is the version a court or an agency will accept. An uncertified printout is fine for personal reference but may not be accepted for legal use. The Broken Arrow office can also provide certified copies of marriage and divorce documents.

People need these copies for many reasons. A name change after marriage, a Social Security update, an immigration step, or a benefits claim often calls for a certified marriage record. A certified divorce decree may be needed to remarry, to settle property, or to update records. Knowing which document you need before you go saves a second trip, since the marriage license and the decree are tracked under different phone lines.

Divorce Filing and Family Fees

A divorce can be filed with an attorney or, if uncontested, on a pro se basis. The Court Clerk does not maintain the forms for an uncontested pro se divorce and suggests a paralegal or forms service. A domestic cover sheet from the Court Clerk forms page is required to file. Filing fees are paid at the time of filing.

Family Filing or ServiceFee
Divorce without minor children$154.14 - $252.14
Divorce with minor children$252.14
Paternity$252.14
Sheriff service of process$50.00
Certified mail service$10.00
Summons$10.00

The fee for a divorce without minor children falls in a range because added services, such as service of process, raise the total. A contested case with children sits at the higher end. The Family Department can confirm the exact filing fee for your situation. If money is tight, ask the court about a fee waiver through a pauper's affidavit, which the docket records as a PA entry.
